School of Psychology at Udayana University Holds “Research Methodology Refreshment” for Students

To support students’ readiness for the thesis preparation process, the Undergraduate Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University held an event titled “Research Methodology Refreshment.” This activity serves as an important agenda for students of the 2022 cohort who are about to begin their research stage, and it is also open to all students who wish to deepen their understanding of psychological research methodology.

The event was divided into two main sessions focusing on two research approaches: Quantitative Research Methods and Qualitative Research Methods.

The first session, “Quantitative Research Methods,” was held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 09.00 WITA via Zoom. The speakers were Hanif Akhtar, S.Psi., M.A., Ph.D. (Lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang), who presented Quantitative Methods in Psychological Research, and Dr. Firmanto Adi Nurcahyo (Lecturer at Udayana University), who discussed Developing Psychological Measurement Instruments. The session was moderated by Putu Yoga Sukma Pratama, M.Psi. In this session, students learned how to design systematic, data-driven research—from formulating hypotheses and selecting research designs to developing and validating psychological measurement instruments.

The second session, “Qualitative Research Methods,” took place on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the same time. The speakers were Jony Eko Yulianto, S.Psi., M.A., Ph.D. (Lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Ciputra), who delivered a presentation on How & Why: Qualitative Research, and Made Diah Lestari, Ph.D. (Lecturer at Udayana University), who discussed Thematic Analysis. This session was moderated by Made Padma Bajirani, S.Psi., M.Psi., and Zahrah Humaidah Emqi, S.Psi., M.Si. Students were introduced to how psychological phenomena can be understood contextually through qualitative approaches. They were also shown examples of how to analyze the meanings behind individual experiences and social processes using thematic analysis techniques, thereby producing research that is rich in narrative and reflective insight.

Through this event, the Psychology Study Program of Udayana University hopes that students can strengthen their theoretical and practical understanding of research methods—both quantitative and qualitative. This knowledge is expected to help students in preparing their research proposals and conducting their studies more systematically, validly, and in accordance with the scientific principles of psychology.
